The Opportunity

For an organisation operating across multiple locations, understanding energy consumption is not as simple as looking at a single electricity bill. HSBC's Singapore operations span several corporate offices, customer branches and wealth centres, with each location operating within different buildings and under different facility management arrangements.

As sustainability reporting and carbon accounting become increasingly important to the organisation's broader sustainability goals, HSBC needed a more consistent way to access and manage its energy data. Relying on information collected separately from individual properties or facility managers would require considerable manual coordination and reconciliation, while differences in how the data was collected could also increase the risk of errors.

The opportunity was therefore to establish one reliable source of truth for energy consumption across HSBC's different locations, giving relevant teams easier access to the data they need for both sustainability reporting and ongoing energy management.

Our Approach

We implemented power monitoring across HSBC's selected corporate offices, customer branches and wealth centres at Mapletree Business City, Singapore Land Tower and Marina Bay Financial Centre, covering the relevant electrical loads across each location.

Rather than leaving energy information fragmented across individual sites, the monitoring infrastructure brings the data together on a centralised platform. This allows authorised personnel to remotely access and monitor energy consumption across multiple locations without having to obtain information separately from each building or facility manager.

With real-time data available from a common platform, HSBC now has a clearer and more consistent view of how energy is being consumed across its monitored Singapore operations.

The Outcome

By centralising its multi-site energy data, HSBC has established a single source of truth for monitored energy consumption across its corporate offices, branches and wealth centres. Relevant teams can access the information remotely from one platform, making it easier to understand consumption across different locations without relying on multiple disconnected sources.

This also simplifies the process of preparing energy data for sustainability reporting and carbon accounting. Instead of repeatedly requesting information from different property or facility managers and manually reconciling the data, teams can work from a centralised source, reducing administrative effort and the potential for human error.

More importantly, the same data that supports reporting also provides ongoing operational visibility. With real-time power monitoring across multiple sites, HSBC has a more streamlined way to track energy performance and provide relevant personnel with access to the information they need.

The result is an energy data foundation that serves both sides of the organisation's needs: reliable data for sustainability and carbon reporting, and centralised visibility for more effective multi-site energy management.
